The most dangerous cars on the market in 2023

Some cars were designed without important safety systems, be careful because the following vehicles can take you anywhere, even to the other world. What are the cars that offer the least safety to their passengers in 2023? To answer this question, the PHP Rent a Car Airport Cluj Napoca car rental office relied on the information obtained from the Euro NCAP organization. So what is Euro NCAP? Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) is an independent organization that tests and assesses the safety of new cars in Europe. Euro NCAP was established in 1997 and is funded by the governments of European countries and car insurance companies. Euro NCAP's main aim is to improve road safety by testing and evaluating new vehicles, providing consumers with detailed and transparent information about their safety performance. Euro NCAP carries out frontal, side and rear impact tests, as well as safety tests for passengers, pedestrians and driver assistance systems. Based on the test results, Euro NCAP assigns a safety score to each vehicle assessed, which is then published on their website. This information helps customers make informed decisions when purchasing a new vehicle and encourages car companies to continually improve the safety of their vehicles.

In 10th place is the Jeep Wrangler, a car that has few safety systems. It has airbags for front passengers, traction control, electronic stability control, rollover prevention and a system for setting the speed limit by the driver. However, other SUVs have safety systems that the Jeep Wrangler doesn't, such as rear passenger airbags, lane keep assist, pedestrian and small animal detection alert, and automatic emergency braking. During the Euro NCAP safety tests, the Jeep Wrangler scored only 1 star. The chassis of the car was so damaged by the impact test that it was clearly seen that it was at the limit of its endurance. Driver protection scored 50%. In the back seats, a 10-year-old child's dummy ended up crashing into the interior of the car in the side impact test even though he was wearing a seat belt. If this happened in a real accident it could crack the child's skull.

On the 9th place we meet the domestic car manufacturer Dacia and its electric Spring model. Dacia Spring was conceived and promoted as a cheap electric car for which the designers decided to cut costs on the safety side. This displeased the NCAP organization which gave it only 1 star and whose general secretary told the media that it was cynical for car companies to offer environmentally friendly cars at low prices by risking the physical integrity of customers. According to other critics, the Dacia Spring is a dangerous car because many safety technologies have been removed to cut costs. Dacia Spring does not have automatic braking in case of multiple collisions, it does not have a lane keeping system, the emergency braking system is very weak, the airbags in the driver's compartment have been reduced, which exposes him even more in side collisions. Therefore the safety score for the driver is only 49%. In addition, the Dacia Spring does not have adequate attachment points for child seats and the force required to open the doors after a collision was considered excessive by reviewers, meaning that after an accident passengers will struggle to get out of the car without help.

The Rover 100 ranks 8th because it received a single star in Euro NCAP tests in 1997. This was one of the first scores given by this organization and the first major controversy as many in the industry pointed out that the crash prevention and safety technologies collision damage reduction are too important in the overall score, where the Rover 100 performed very poorly. The Rover 100 also showed serious problems in frontal impact tests, such as the driver's seat being displaced by almost half a meter following the impact and the door being split in two which resulted in the dashboard moving towards the driver. The wheel on the side of the impact moved 30 centimeters towards the driver's chest which proved a serious hazard. The seat belt provided insufficient restraint to the child seat in both the frontal and side impact tests resulting in excessive head movement and endangering the child's life.

On the 7th place of the ranking of the PHP Rent a Car Cluj Airport company list is the Korean model Kia Rio, which is one of the deadliest cars in the world according to US statistics. In the year 2020 there were 102 deaths per 1 million registrations in the US and of this ratio 38 deaths per 1 million were accidents involving a single vehicle, a Kia Rio crashing into something else while 51 deaths per 1 million were accidents involving multiple vehicles. The rest of the deaths were caused by other reasons such as fleeing from the scene of accidents. In the NCAP tests Kia Rio achieved a mediocre score of 3 stars but with scary descriptions. Thus, following the impact tests, the floor of the car in the driver's area broke, which in a real accident would have led to his legs being crushed by the asphalt and even lost. In pedestrian protection tests in a collision, the Kia Rio scored 0 points, so we do not recommend you cross paths with this car.

The Nissan Navara ranks 6th in this ranking with half a star received in the 2008 Euro NCAP tests. Following the impact tests, the passenger compartment was destabilized. The chassis rails that run along the car to provide safety support have completely given way, exposing the driver's legs. The accelerator pedal moved almost 20 centimeters, enough to hit the bottom of the legs and cause serious injury. The driver's neck ended up being thrown back which is a potentially fatal injury in a road accident. The Nissan Navara had two other major delays, both airbags and seat belt pretensioners activated late, which can mean death for passengers in such critical events as traffic accidents where every second counts.

In 5th place is the Fiat Punto which in 2017 received 0 stars in the Euro NCAP evaluations and made history because it was the first car tested by this organization to receive such a low score. This was due to the car lagging behind in terms of safety technologies after the 1997 Fiat Punto achieved 2 stars. This car lacks safety technologies like lane assist, automatic emergency braking and seat belt reminders. For all these reasons, the score received in the protection systems category was 0 percent. Impact tests revealed that front passenger chest protection was insignificant and exposed to serious hazards due to the structure of the dashboard, so in the driver protection category the Fiat Punto scored only 51%. Tests of the head restraints showed that neck protection in a rear collision was very poor. After safety evaluations, the Fiat Punto was withdrawn from the market, but those who purchased this car still drive it.

Fiat Panda ranks 4th in the ranking of the most dangerous cars. The so-called Fiat Panda debacle came just a year after the Fiat Punto debacle and proved once again that cars that scored well in the past scored very poorly in the newer variants. In 2011 the Fiat Panda got 4 stars in NCAP tests but in 2018 it failed to get even one star due to the lack of automatic emergency braking and safety belt reminders. In crash tests, the driver's seat offered poor chest protection and the headrests did not offer neck protection to passengers, which is why the driver's safety category received only 45%. The lowest score was achieved in the child safety category which is worrying as this has been advertised as a family car.

At this moment we have reached the podium of the PHP Rent a Car Airport Cluj Napoca agency of the most dangerous cars in the world and the third step is occupied by the Renault Zoe. This car is another example of a failed newer version as the Renault Zoe scored 5 stars in safety tests in 2013. Unfortunately after 8 years, improvements such as battery capacity have not come with updates to safety systems but even on the contrary. Some front airbags protecting the head and thorax were removed, which is why test dummies' heads smashed into the interior of the car during crash tests. This would cause major injuries in a road accident. In addition, tests have shown that the new Renault Zoe is aggressive in frontal impacts with other vehicles. It tells you an interesting matter, during the tests a dummy lost its arm, this problem was attributed to wear and tear from previous tests. In conclusion, in the category of driver safety Renault Zoe scored only 43%, one of the lowest scores and the overall score was 0 stars in 2021.

On the second step of this podium is the Hyundai Accent which is another very dangerous vehicle on this list. It has a ratio of 116 deaths per million US registrations. From this report, 26 deaths per 1 million are crashes where the Hyundai Accent was the only vehicle involved, 9 deaths per 1 million were from rollovers, and 85 deaths per 1 million were caused by collisions with other vehicles. In the Euro NCAP tests of 1998, the Hyundai Accent scored only 1 and a half stars. In frontal impact tests, the passenger cabin became unstable and the lower hinge on the driver's door came off, while the upper one came close to coming off as well. If the door were to come off completely then the driver would only depend on the seat belt to keep from being thrown out of the car on impact. An unacceptable risk to the driver's chest was observed during side impact tests.

The most dangerous car in the world and which occupies the first step of the podium of the PHP Rent a Car Avram Iancu Cluj Napoca Airport car rental office is called the Ford Fiesta, the deadliest car of all. The Ford Fiesta has a rate of 141 deaths per 1 million registrations in the US which breaks down as follows: 46 deaths per 1 million correspond to crashes involving only the Fiesta model, 13 deaths per 1 million were caused by rollovers, and 82 of deaths per 1 million were due to accidents with other vehicles. Although NCAP gave it 3 stars for safety in 2000, other organizations in this field are much harsher and show serious problems in frontal impact tests where the driver is very exposed. In the event of an accident, passengers may suffer significant head and lower limb injuries. All these statistics and safety tests have shown that the Ford Fiesta is the most dangerous car in terms of passenger safety.

In conclusion, the PHP Rent a Car Airport Cluj office recommends that you study the degree of safety offered by the vehicle you want to purchase because, as you can see from the list of the most dangerous cars above, some cars offer a degree of safety very low and most of the time following road accidents in which passengers are involved they suffer injuries that are incompatible with life.
