Great Wall Motor brings production closer to Romania, the Ora 5 model will be produced in Bulgaria

Great Wall Motor Ora 5, estimated prices in Romania, production and launch details

The European electric and electrified vehicle market is witnessing a major strategic reconfiguration as Asian manufacturers locate their production capacities directly on the old continent. Chinese giant Great Wall Motor (GWM) has announced a decisive step in its regional expansion, confirming that the new Ora 5 electric model will be manufactured in Europe, more precisely in Bulgaria, marking an important milestone in the brand's industrial strategy.

European production in Bulgaria and the strategic ambitions of Great Wall Motor

The decision to produce cars directly in Europe allows Chinese manufacturers to avoid tariff barriers and considerably optimize delivery times to European customers.

  • Bulgaria Production Center: The factory chosen by Great Wall Motor will house the assembly lines for the new Ora 5, with an initial production capacity estimated at 50,000 vehicles per year. This industrial move underscores the importance the company attaches to the Central and Eastern European markets.
  • Long-term expansion plans: The group's growth plans don't stop there. Great Wall Motor is considering opening a second major plant in Europe, with an annual production capacity of up to 300,000 cars by 2029.
  • New model offensive: The brand's commercial strategy foresees the launch of no less than 10 new models in Europe over the next two years. The expanded portfolio will include a diverse range of propulsion systems, from conventional combustion engines and advanced hybrid systems to 100% electric vehicles.

Exterior, interior design and advanced technologies for Ora 5

A member of the Ora electric model family, the new Ora 5 adopts the brand's characteristic design philosophy, combining retro-futuristic elements with modern aerodynamic solutions.

  1. Exterior Design: The crossover's flowing silhouette is enhanced by curved lines, round LED matrix headlights and a friendly yet sophisticated visual footprint. Aerodynamically designed alloy wheels and balanced proportions give it a distinct presence on the road.
  2. Interior and comfort: The cabin is designed with a high level of refinement and a lounge-like atmosphere. Sustainable materials, soft-touch finishes and ergonomic seats make long journeys a relaxing experience. The interior space is generous thanks to the extended wheelbase offered by the electric vehicle platform.
  3. Technology and digitalization: The dashboard is dominated by a fully digitalized interface, composed of a driver instrument panel and a generous central multimedia screen, compatible with the latest connectivity applications. The intelligent voice assistant, over-the-air (OTA) software updates and extensive active safety packages (state-of-the-art ADAS driver assistance systems) complete the model's technological package.

Engines, performance and efficiency

Even though the official detailed specifications for the versions intended for the European market are being finalized at this time, the model's architecture promises competitive performance in the compact segment.

  • Electric propulsion systems: Ora 5 relies on high-performance electric motors, designed to provide instant torque delivery and agile dynamics in urban environments, as well as stable behavior on the highway.
  • Autonomy and charging: Equipped with high-density battery packs, the model will ensure generous autonomy between charges, being compatible with high-power (DC) stations that allow rapid energy recovery in a short time, thus facilitating long journeys without hassle.

Availability and estimated prices for the Romanian market

With the start of production in Europe, the brand's distribution network will naturally expand to the Romanian market, where affordable and technologically advanced Asian cars are attracting increasing interest.

  • Launch and Availability: The first units of the Ora 5 model produced in Europe are expected to arrive in European and local showrooms shortly after the start of industrial operations at the Bulgarian factory.
  • Estimated prices: Competitively positioned in its segment, the new Ora 5 is estimated to have a starting price that will place the model in an extremely attractive area for electric car buyers. List prices could start from approximately 28,000 - 32,000 euros, a value that can be significantly reduced by accessing local ecological incentive programs (Rabla Plus), becoming a serious alternative to European and Asian competitors present in Romania.
