A luxury "studio" on wheels: Hyundai launches Inster Lounge, the new electric flagship
Hyundai continues to rewrite the rules in the mini segment (A-class). The South Korean manufacturer has officially presented the Inster Lounge, a new top version that transforms the smallest electric vehicle in the brand's portfolio into a manifesto of urban comfort and premium finishes. If the Inster Cross version relied on a robust, adventurous look, the new Lounge shifts its focus to the interior, offering a relaxing experience, inspired by the concept of a "personal space".
Discreet changes on the outside, but effective
Although the compact dimensions have remained unchanged, the Hyundai Inster Lounge instantly stands out through a series of unique aesthetic elements:
- Glow Mint: An exclusive body color that makes its debut with this trim.
- New optics and grille: The front receives a structurally redesigned radiator grille and bumper, flanked by Full LED projection headlights.
- Dedicated wheels: The confident look is complemented by 17-inch alloy wheels with an aerodynamic disc-shaped design.
- Premium details: The side claddings are finished in a matte silver shade, giving the car a much more mature visual presence.
In addition to the new Glow Mint color, customers will also be able to choose from the classic shades: Atlas White, Unbleached Ivory, Tomboy Khaki and Abyss Black Pearl.
Ultra-flexible cabin with segment-first materials
The real revolution brought by the Inster Lounge, however, lies inside. Hyundai has abandoned the classic approach of rigid and affordable materials in the mini class, opting for refined textures.
The upholstery is made from a combination of textile and genuine leather (an extremely rare element for this class), highlighted by a dark gray and mint green color scheme, complemented by Glow Mint accents. The headliner and sun visors receive a premium knit-type finish, enhancing the tactile quality sensation.
In terms of flexibility, the cabin quickly transforms according to needs: the front seats can be folded completely, creating a flat surface, while the rear seats can be slid and tilted separately to prioritize legroom or trunk volume, also helped by a dedicated luggage organizer (luggage board).
High-class technology and sound with Kevlar membranes
The on-board technology doesn't compromise either. The dashboard houses two generous 10.25-inch screens as standard: one for the digital instrumentation behind the steering wheel and the second for the multimedia system.
The package brings features such as inductive smartphone charging, an extensive suite of driver assistance systems and a premium audio system equipped with Kevlar diaphragm speakers, promising superior acoustic fidelity in everyday urban travel.
Engines, range and charging at 120 kW
The Hyundai Inster Lounge retains the two technical variants of the model:
- Standard Range: 97 hp engine powered by a 42 kWh battery.
- Long Range: 115 HP engine coupled to a 49 kWh battery.
In the top version with a large battery, the small electric SUV promises a range of up to 360 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. When it comes to charging, the Inster Lounge benefits from excellent speed for its class: it supports direct current (DC) fast charging of up to 120 kW, which means that the charge from 10% to 80% is ready in just 30 minutes.
Price and availability in Romania: How much will the new top of the range cost?
Production of the Hyundai Inster Lounge model officially starts this month, and the first units are expected in European showrooms in the coming period.
Although official prices for Romania have not yet been announced by the importer, we already have clear benchmarks for the European market. In Germany, the Inster Lounge version with the large 49 kWh battery has a starting price of 29,850 euros.
Price estimate for Romania: Taking into account the current price grid on the local market – where the Inster Cross 49 kWh lifestyle equipment has a recommended price of approximately €27,588 including VAT –, we can estimate that the new Hyundai Inster Lounge will start at around €28,500 for the 42 kWh battery version and will range around €30,000 - €31,000 (including VAT) for the higher 49 kWh version, before applying government subsidies.
With this level of features and finishes, the Hyundai Inster Lounge is ready to compete directly for the first position in the top of the best-selling city electrics in Europe, betting on an extremely bold proposition: compressed luxury in a mini format.
