Expanded cargo space and functional optimizations for carriers
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is expanding its electric van range with the launch of the new long wheelbase (LWB) variant of the ID. Buzz Cargo. Designed to meet the needs of fleet operators and logistics companies that need higher transport volumes, the new model brings significant improvements in usable space.
The length of the load space has increased by 250 millimetres compared to the standard wheelbase version. This lengthening translates into a direct gain of 500 litres in total load volume, allowing for easier transport of bulky items or additional Euro pallets.
The cargo area floor is covered in durable wood, and the maximum payload now reaches 700 kilograms. On the outside, the new version stands out with its 190 millimetres wider side sliding doors, facilitating quick access to the cargo from the side areas. At the rear, the vehicle is equipped with a vertically opening tailgate as standard, but can optionally be configured with two side-opening swing doors.
Advanced on-board technology and new driver features
Inside, the cabin can be configured in two- or three-seater variants. The new ID. Buzz Cargo with long wheelbase adopts the German group's latest digital architecture, receiving the Innovision multimedia system, along with a redesigned steering wheel with optimized ergonomic controls.
The range of driver assistance systems has been updated with the integration of Travel Assist, which now includes an innovative traffic light recognition and adaptation function. The model also introduces two extremely useful functionalities in everyday use:
- V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function: Allows powering external electrical equipment, work tools or appliances directly from the vehicle battery;
- One-Pedal Driving: Increases energy efficiency in urban environments through enhanced regenerative braking when the accelerator pedal is released.
Two powertrain options: Up to 340 hp and 86 kWh battery
To support the increased load and extended dimensions, Volkswagen offers the new elongated variant in two distinct technical configurations, both powered by a lithium-ion battery pack with a net capacity of 86 kWh:
- Rear-wheel drive (RWD) version: A single electric motor located on the rear axle, developing 286 horsepower;
- All-wheel drive (AWD / 4Motion) variant: Two electric motors (one on each axle) providing a combined power of 340 horsepower, providing increased grip on wet or snowy roads.
Availability and prices: Estimates for the Romanian market
On the German market, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo LWB has a starting price of 48,490 euros (excl. VAT) for the 286 hp single-engine version and 50,630 euros (excl. VAT) for the 340 hp all-wheel drive version.
On the Romanian market, the existing ID. Buzz Cargo range with a short wheelbase starts at approximately 53,200 euros including VAT (approximately 44,000 euros excluding VAT).
Considering the price differential between markets and the additional costs of homologation and transport, estimates for the domestic market place the new elongated variant within the following ceilings:
- Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo LWB (286 HP, RWD): Estimated starting price from 58,000 – 59,500 euros including VAT (approximately 48,700 – 50,000 euros excluding VAT).
- Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo LWB 4Motion (340 HP, AWD): Estimated starting price from 61,000 – 63,000 euros including VAT (approximately 51,200 – 53,000 euros excluding VAT).
The official opening of orders on the Romanian market is expected in the coming period, with the first deliveries to fleet customers scheduled for the end of this year.
