Toyota Yaris Update in 2026: Premium Features for the Models Most Popular Trim Level

Focus on comfort and style: Toyota improves the cabin and features of the Yaris model

The Toyota Yaris, one of the most appreciated representatives of the subcompact segment globally, is undergoing a series of updates aimed at strengthening its position in the market. The Japanese have decided to increase exactly where it matters to customers: in the area of ????medium equipment, which represents the core of sales.

Here's what's new about Toyota's "little genius" and how it fits into the Romanian auto market at the beginning of 2026.

More style and technology for the Mid+ equipment

The update focuses on the Mid+ trim level, a strategic choice given that approximately 40% of Yaris customers opt for this variant. The changes transform this trim into a much more attractive offering, borrowing visual elements and features from the higher versions.

New exterior and interior features:

  • Larger wheels: Instead of the old 16-inch wheels, the Yaris Mid+ now comes standard with 17-inch wheels, finished in a modern matte black, which radically changes the car's stance.
  • Sports seats: The cabin features seats with a more pronounced profile, offering better lateral support. They are dressed in new upholstery, decorated with elegant stitching in three shades of gray.
  • Premium features in standard equipment. The list of standard equipment for Mid+ is enriched with: Smart Entry system and engine start button, Wireless smartphone charging system, Ambient lighting, for a relaxed atmosphere at night.
  • New colour: The colour palette expands with Celestite Grey, now available across the entire Yaris range.

Toyota Yaris on the Romanian market

In Romania, the Yaris remains an extremely popular model, often being the first choice for those looking for a reliable and, above all, hybrid city car. The Hybrid 130 powertrain (recently introduced alongside the 116 HP variant) attracted a new segment of customers who wanted more dynamics without sacrificing efficiency.

Prices and competition

The Romanian market is extremely competitive in this segment, where price and operating costs are the main purchasing criteria.

Model Starting Price (Estimated 2026) Competitive Advantage
Toyota Yaris ~€22,200 Most efficient hybrid system, high resale value.
Renault Clio E-Tech ~€21,500 Sophisticated design, high-quality interior materials.
Dacia Sandero ~€14,500 Best value for money, generous interior space.
Volkswagen Polo ~€20,000 German ergonomics, advanced driver assistance tech.

Although the list price of the Yaris is higher than that of a Dacia Sandero or a basic model from the competition, Toyota is betting on low maintenance costs and urban consumption that frequently drops below 4 l/100 km. In Romania, the Rabla program continues to play a crucial role, reducing the purchase price for hybrid variants by several thousand euros, making the model much more affordable.

Conclusion

The Mid+ trim update demonstrates that Toyota is listening to market feedback. By offering "top-of-the-line" features on a volume trim, the Japanese manufacturer manages to keep the Yaris fresh in the face of increasingly aggressive rivals. The new version will be available to order in Romania starting in the first quarter of this year.
