Stella Li BYD in Romania, Flash Charging stations, future plans and dominance on the automotive market

The Romanian automotive market is increasingly attracting the attention of global electric mobility giants. In a move that underscores the growing importance of our country on the energy and industrial map of Europe, Stella Li, executive vice president of Chinese giant BYD, made her first official visit to Bucharest. The event included a series of strategic meetings with government authorities and local partners, culminating in a press conference in which the guidelines for the brand's expansion in the region were outlined.

A landmark visit: Dialogues at the highest level in the capital

The presence of the second person in the BYD global hierarchy in Romania marks a turning point for the Asian manufacturer's European strategy. The visit was marked by open dialogue with representatives of the business environment, Romanian authorities and the specialized press.

Through this trip, the brand's executive management wanted to understand in detail the specifics of the local market, evaluate the growth potential and strengthen relationships with the network of partners that ensure the brand's presence on the domestic market.

Lightning success on the Romanian market: Dominance in the electric and PHEV segments

The BYD official's visit was supported by remarkable figures obtained by the brand on the Romanian market during the first nine months of the year:

  • Leader in 100% electric vehicles (BEV): The brand registered 1,600 registrations, ranking first in Romanian consumers' preferences for purely electric cars.
  • Authoritarian dominance in plug-in hybrids (PHEV): With 2,573 units sold, BYD has become the most popular PHEV brand, with almost a quarter of all cars of this type registered in Romania bearing the Chinese manufacturer's logo.
  • Asian leader status: The company has established itself as the best-selling Chinese car brand on the local market, confirming an accelerated adoption rate by Romanian drivers.

Romania, a strategic pole for Central and Eastern Europe

During the press conference held in Bucharest, Stella Li emphasized the essential role that Romania plays in the company's long-term vision.

  • Tradition and human skills: “For BYD, Romania is an important market in Central and Eastern Europe,” the executive said. “Thanks to its strong automotive tradition, talented people and strategic position, we see great potential here, not only for our vehicles, but also for cooperation in technology, infrastructure and industry.”
  • Long-term partnerships: The visit was defined as an opportunity to listen and calibrate local needs, with the emphasis on building solid and sustainable relationships that will bring real progress in the Romanian consumer experience.

Charging Revolution: Implementing the National "Flash Charging" Network

One of the most important announcements made by Stella Li concerns recharging infrastructure, considered the key to success in the transition to zero-emission mobility.

  1. Nationwide ultra-fast charging stations: BYD will develop a new network of charging stations consisting of several hundred points strategically located throughout the country.
  2. Flash Charging Technology: The new stations will integrate proprietary ultra-fast charging technology, designed to drastically reduce parking times and make using electric vehicles as simple and convenient as conventional charging.
  3. Solutions for heavy transport: The company's plans do not stop at passenger cars, the official also mentioning the openness towards electrification of bus and commercial truck fleets in Romania.

Opportunities for industrial cooperation and local component production

The discussions held by BYD management with Romanian authorities and partners also touched on the industrial sphere, opening up interesting perspectives for the national economy.

  • Local expertise capitalized on: The manufacturer is analyzing the possibility of close cooperation with local suppliers and automotive professionals, considering a potential integration of Romania into the supply chain for the brand's European operations.
  • Future prospects: Although no vehicle factory-type investment has been announced, the interest shown in Romanian technical expertise and parts production underlines the company's openness to major industrial projects, consolidating Romania's status as a regional hub in the European automotive industry.
