Production of the new Mercedes GLA has begun. How much does the brand's smallest electric SUV cost in Romania?
Production debut in Rastatt and full electrification. The German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has marked a major strategic milestone by starting series production of the new generation of the GLA. The assembly of the smallest SUV in the brand's portfolio is taking place at the German plant in Rastatt, a reference production center reconfigured for the assembly of electrified compact vehicles.
For the first time in the model's history, the new generation GLA is being developed on an architecture that allows for both 100% electric propulsion and versions equipped with internal combustion engines assisted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. In the first phase, the production line in Rastatt is dedicated exclusively to the fully electric variants, with petrol and diesel mild-hybrid versions to come on line later.
Electric versions, batteries and autonomy of up to 657 km
The electric powertrain of the new German SUV is structured in three distinct versions, adapted for different performance and autonomy requirements:
- GLA 200: The entry-level version offers 200 horsepower and is powered by a battery with LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) chemistry with a capacity of 58 kWh.
- GLA 250+: Configuration oriented towards maximum autonomy, developing 272 horsepower and using an 85 kWh NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery.
- GLA 350 4Matic: The all-wheel drive variant with two electric motors delivers a total power of 353.5 horsepower, supported by the same 85 kWh NMC battery.
Depending on the equipment level and drive version chosen, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA electric can achieve a maximum range of up to 657 kilometers in the WLTP test cycle, while also offering short recharging times at DC fast charging stations.
Availability, equipment and prices on the Romanian market
On the Romanian market, the new electric Mercedes-Benz GLA is already available for order in the official dealer network, with the first deliveries scheduled to begin in the coming period.
The starting price for the local market is 49,120 euros including VAT, corresponding to the basic electric version GLA 200.
The standard equipment package offered on the Romanian market includes:
- The new generation MBUX infotainment system with a large central screen and advanced voice commands.
- Fully digital instrument cluster and headlights with LED technology.
- Extensive active safety assistance package (autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistant and traffic sign reader).
- Dual-zone automatic climate control and Dynamic Select driving mode selection.
Customers can opt for higher equipment lines, such as the Progressive or AMG Line packages, as well as customization options from the Manufaktur range. Mild-hybrid versions will become available for order in the local market towards the end of the year.
