One million Skoda Karoq SUVs - a success story that continues in 2028

Skoda Karoq has reached the milestone of 1 million units produced. How much does it cost and how successful is the compact SUV in Romania?

The Czech carmaker is celebrating a major success in the highly competitive compact SUV segment. Skoda has officially announced the assembly of the 1,000,000th example of the Parcursul. This achievement reconfirms the model's status as a central pillar in the brand's portfolio, almost a decade after its market debut.

The anniversary vehicle, finished in elegant Graphite Grey, rolled off the assembly line at the Czech plant in Kvasiny — the same factory where the manufacturer also produces the Octavia and Kodiaq models. Under the hood of this historic example is the 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine, which develops 150 horsepower.

A successful journey that began in 2017

Launched in 2017, the Karoq was the third SUV in the modern history of the Skoda brand, completing the range after the pioneer Yeti and its bigger brother, the Kodiaq. In 2021, the model underwent an optical and technological facelift aimed at maintaining its competitiveness.

Throughout its career, the Karoq has been distinguished by a diverse range of engines. In addition to the 1.5-liter unit, the range includes 1.0-liter, 1.4-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline engines, along with the efficient 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine. An interesting statistic published by the manufacturer shows that 73% of customers preferred the DSG automatic transmission, while only 27% remained loyal to the manual gearbox. Among the largest sales markets for this SUV are Germany, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom.

A new generation confirmed for 2028

Beyond celebrating this millionth unit, Skoda is already looking to the future. Brand officials have confirmed that the new generation Karoq is in full development. The manufacturer's plans call for the official launch of the new model in the winter of 2027-2028, with it arriving in showrooms in 2028. The new iteration promises to bring advanced electrification technologies and a completely modernized design language, adapted to the new standards of the Volkswagen Group.

Prices and success of the model on the Romanian market

On the Romanian market, Skoda enjoys huge popularity, traditionally being one of the best-selling import brands. In the top of general registrations in the country, the Czech manufacturer manages to secure a leading position in the ranking year after year, with a robust sales volume.

In this landscape, the SUV segment continues to dominate Romanian preferences, and the Karoq plays an essential role alongside the smaller Kamiq and the new Kodiaq. Local customers particularly appreciate the model's practicality, generous interior space and excellent resale value, with the Karoq also being highly sought after on the used vehicle market.

How much does a new Skoda Karoq cost in Romania?

According to the official price list of the importer Skoda Romania:

  • The standard Skoda Karoq (Selection equipment) has a starting price of EUR 30,813 (VAT included).
  • The sporty version, Skoda Karoq Sportline, starts at EUR 39,136 (VAT included).

However, local dealers frequently offer attractive promotional campaigns. For example, through special network offers, a very popular configuration such as the Karoq Selection 1.5 TSI DSG (150 HP) can be purchased at promotional prices that drop to around EUR 25,580 (VAT included), thus becoming one of the most competitive options in the compact SUV segment in Romania.
