New Mazda CX-6e 2027: The Electric SUV that redefines the Jinba Ittai philosophy

Mazda continues its electric offensive on the European market and chose the Brussels Motor Show to officially present the new CX-6e. Considered the electric counterpart of the popular CX-5, this model represents the second chapter of the partnership between Mazda and the Chinese giant Changan, after the success of the Mazda 6e sedan. Developed on the EPA platform, the new CX-6e is not just a design exercise, but a serious competitor for the Tesla Model Y, offering a mix of Japanese aesthetics and cutting-edge battery technology.

Exterior Design: Kodo – Soul of Motion in the digital age

The new CX-6e introduces an evolution of the Kodo visual language, adapted to the aerodynamic requirements of an electric vehicle. The body, 4,850 mm long, stands out with fluid shapes and details that give it an imposing presence on the road.

  • Front: The grille is now a sculptural piece, framed by a partially illuminated grille surround that subtly merges with the slim LED headlights. Even the Mazda logo is illuminated, providing a distinct visual identity at night.
  • Profile: Mazda has opted for a coupe-SUV silhouette, with a plunging roofline and doors with retractable handles to reduce drag. Slim, digital wing-shaped mirrors replace conventional mirrors on higher versions.
  • Rear: LED taillights span the entire width of the tailgate, featuring a new light signature that pulsates during charging to indicate battery level.
  • Customization: Customers can choose from 7 premium colors (such as the legendary Soul Red Crystal or the new Violet Nightfall), most of which offer the option of a contrasting black roof. Wheels range from 19 inches for the Takumi trim to 21 inches for the Takumi Plus.

Interior: A digital and premium universe

The interior of the new Mazda CX-6e marks a stylistic break from previous models, moving towards a "Smart Cockpit" concept.

  • Screens and Infotainment: The centerpiece is a massive 26-inch display that stretches across the dashboard, doubled by a digital instrument cluster for the driver and a generous Head-Up Display projected directly onto the windshield.
  • Comfort and Sound: Mazda has included Bluetooth speakers integrated directly into the front seat headrests, part of a premium audio system with 23 speakers and a power of 1,280 watts.
  • New technologies: The car has advanced gesture control and voice commands. There are also dedicated operating modes: Pet Comfort Mode (maintains the climate for pets), Rest Mode, Relax Mode and Wash Mode.
  • Space: The rear boot offers 468 litres (expandable to 1,434 litres), supplemented by an 80-litre front boot (frunk), ideal for charging cables.

At launch, the Mazda CX-6e relies on a balanced configuration, focused on efficiency and brand-specific driving dynamics (RWD).

Safety Technologies

Following the philosophy of proactive safety, Japanese engineers have equipped the CX-6e with the latest generation i-Activsense package:

  • Mazda Co-Pilot Concept: Monitors the driver's condition and can stop the car safely if it detects medical problems or extreme fatigue.
  • Intelligent Speed ??and Lane Keeping Assist.
  • Blind Spot Warning System with active intervention.
  • Smart Brake Support with pedestrian and cyclist detection function, including at intersections.

Availability and Price in Romania

The new Mazda CX-6e will be produced in production facilities in China, under the brand's strict quality standards. Sales on the European market, including Romania, are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026.

Although official prices have not yet been listed on the configurator, estimates based on the positioning of the 6e sedan suggest a starting price for the Takumi version of approximately 46,500 – 48,000 Euros (including VAT). The top version, Takumi Plus, equipped with 21-inch wheels and additional premium features, could reach the threshold of 52,000 Euros. Through the Rabla Plus program, the purchase price could become extremely competitive in the premium electric SUV segment.

Main competitors on the Romanian market

  1. Tesla Model Y: The undisputed leader of the segment. In 2026, the Model Y remains the benchmark for efficiency and software. With a starting price in Romania of around 39,990 Euros for the Standard (RWD) version, it offers a range of 534 km (WLTP), making it a direct and aggressively priced rival to the CX-6e.
  2. Hyundai IONIQ 5: A strong competitor thanks to its ultra-fast 800V charging architecture. The 84 kWh battery version offers a range of up to 570 km and has a recommended price starting at around 41,000 Euros. Its retro-futuristic design is the main aesthetic alternative to Mazda's Kodo style.
  3. Kia EV6: The IONIQ 5's platform sibling, the Kia EV6 focuses on a sportier and more dynamic design. Prices in Romania start at around 48,000 - 50,000 Euros for the large battery version, offering similar technical performance to the Mazda, but with an advantage in charging speed.
  4. Volkswagen ID.4 & Skoda Enyaq: The VAG group's "twins" are very popular in Romanian fleets. The Skoda Enyaq facelift starts at around 42,100 Euros (version 60), offering generous interior space and a more conservative, but extremely practical approach, ideal for families.
  5. Ford Puma Gen-E: Although it is a smaller class SUV, being produced locally in Craiova, it represents an important option for Romanian customers looking for an electric model with extensive domestic technical support.

Conclusion: A bet on design and emotion

The Mazda CX-6e 2027 does not try to be the cheapest electric car, nor does it hunt for absolute autonomy records. Instead, it relies on refinement, the quality of interior materials and an immersive digital experience (the 26-inch screen and the 23-speaker audio system being strong points).

The collaboration with Changan has allowed Mazda to bring a technologically advanced product to market much faster, while maintaining the visual identity that made the brand famous. For the Romanian buyer, the CX-6e will be a choice for those who want to stand out through elegance, without sacrificing the utility of a spacious SUV. Its success will depend enormously on how the final price will be positioned compared to the Tesla Model Y, but Mazda now has all the assets to become a relevant player in the era of electrification.
