AUDI reveals E7X, is the first SUV from the Audi-SAIC partnership, promises luxury and record-breaking technology

The Electric Revolution in the Heart of China: AUDI Unveils the E7X, a Luxury SUV That Rewrites the Rules of the Game

After the resounding success of the E5 Sportback, recently named "China Car of the Year 2026", the partnership between Audi and SAIC is expanding into the premium segment. At the Auto China 2026 in Beijing, the AUDI E7X, the first fully electric SUV of the new "AUDI" brand (written in capital letters, the exclusive signature for the Chinese market), was officially presented.

This tech giant promises to combine German engineering rigor with China's ultra-advanced digital ecosystem. Here's what's new about this electric mobility "monolith."

Exterior Design: Monolithic Aesthetics and Intelligent Lighting

The AUDI E7X is not just large, it is imposing. With a length of 5,049 mm and a generous wheelbase of 3,060 mm, the SUV displays a stage presence dominated by simplicity and precision.

The innovation of the AUDI Light Frame. The central element of the design is the AUDI Light Frame. When inactive, the light units appear invisible, seamlessly integrated into the bodywork. Once activated, over 1,000 light triangles shine directly through the paintwork, creating a unique visual signature.

  • Digital Matrix LED Headlights: These not only illuminate the road, but also project safety markings on the asphalt and warnings for pedestrians.
  • Premium details: Frameless doors, sculptural rims and a shoulder line that suggests dynamism even when the car is stationary.

Inside: A "Digital Sanctuary" on Wheels

The interior was designed as a relaxation space (retreat), where noble materials such as open-pore chestnut wood and Nappa leather meet state-of-the-art technology.

“Zero-Gravity” comfort. The E7X is available in two configurations:

  • 5 seats: For active families.
  • 4-seater (Executive): The rear seats recline up to 120 degrees, providing a zero-gravity experience. They feature 16-point massage, 400 mm footrest and adaptive headrests.

Technology and Entertainment

  • Giant Screens: Up front is the AUDI Panoramic Display, a 27-inch curved 4K screen. For rear passengers, a 21.4-inch screen descends from the ceiling, transforming the car into a private cinema.
  • Immersive Sound: The 26-speaker Bose Performance Series system includes speakers integrated into the headrests, allowing passengers to listen to different content without disturbing each other.
  • AUDI Assistant 2.0: An AI companion developed together with ByteDance, capable of having natural conversations and adjusting the tone of voice depending on the time of day.

Performance: Raw Power and Record Load

The E7X is built on the new Advanced Digitized Platform (ADP) and uses a 900-volt electrical architecture, which gives it a huge competitive advantage over rivals.

Specification RWD Variant Quattro (AWD) Variant
Power Output 300 kW (approx. 408 hp) 500 kW (approx. 680 hp)
Torque 500 Nm 800 Nm
0-100 km/h Acceleration - 3.9 seconds
Battery Capacity (Gross) 100 kWh 109 kWh
CLTC Range Over 700 km Over 750 km

Lightning Charging: Thanks to 4C technology, the battery charges from 10% to 80% in just 13 minutes. Basically, a coffee break is enough to add hundreds of kilometers of range.

Dynamics and Assistance: Lidar and Integral Steering

Audi has made no compromises when it comes to handling. Despite being a massive SUV, the E7X has a turning circle of just 10.3 meters, thanks to the four-wheel steering system (standard across the range). The adaptive air suspension ensures supreme comfort, regardless of the quality of the road.

Intelligent Safety. The AUDI 360 Driving Assist system, developed together with AI experts at Momenta, uses LiDAR sensors to safely navigate through the chaotic traffic of Chinese metropolises.

  • Autonomous Navigation: The car can handle highway and city driving on its own.
  • Parking Pro: Includes "memory parking" functions (the car learns the way to the parking space in the garage on its own) and nose-forward parking for easy access to the trunk.

Will E7X arrive in Romania? The prospects of a "China Exclusive"

Although the E7X's performance is tempting, the chances of seeing the new "AUDI" brand (without rings) in Romanian showrooms are, for the time being, low. Here's why:

  1. Brand Identity: In Europe, the four rings are sacred. Introducing a parallel brand, referred to only by text, would create confusion among traditional customers and cannibalize models like the Q6 e-tron.
  2. Digital Ecosystem: The car's software is built on Chinese services (ByteDance, local maps). Adapting it to GDPR requirements and the Google/Apple ecosystem in Europe would require massive investments.
  3. Economic Barriers: The customs duties imposed by the EU on electric cars produced in China would make the price of the E7X uncompetitive in our market.
  4. Technology Transfer: The most likely scenario? We won't get the car, but we will see its technology (900V charging, advanced AI, and new batteries) implemented on future Audi models destined for Europe.

The AUDI E7X is, for now, that "forbidden fruit" of German-Chinese engineering that we, in Europe, are just looking at with lust over the fence.

Conclusion

The AUDI E7X represents the German group's total bet on the electric future in China. It is a vehicle that not only respects Audi's dynamic heritage, but also propels it into an era of extreme digitalization. Production will begin at the base in Anting, Shanghai, and first deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2026.

Do you think this "China-exclusive" model would also be successful on the streets of Europe, given its top-of-the-line specifications?
