World range record for Audi A6 Sportback e-tron, 1,338 kilometers on a single charge
The Volkswagen Group continues to demonstrate its technological lead in the field of electric vehicles by setting official distance records, designed to show that zero-emission mobility can rival the autonomy of models equipped with combustion engines. After the Volkswagen ID. Buzz utility model was recently approved for the longest route covered by an electric vehicle, it is now the turn of the premium brand Audi to set a new world record.
The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron has officially entered the Guinness Book of Records for the longest distance covered by a production electric car on a single battery charge. The German sedan managed to cover a total of 1,338 kilometers without being connected to a charging station.
At the wheel of the car was Polish driver Miko Marczyk, the 2025 European rally champion. Marczyk's experience in efficient resource management is well known, as he previously held a record for autonomy of 2,831 kilometers behind the wheel of a diesel car.
The 45-hour route through Poland and the numbers behind its efficiency
The autonomy test began on September 11 in Poland. The route taken by Miko Marczyk took him through some of the country's most important cities - such as Kraków, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Torun and Grudziadz - and then followed the course of the Vistula River to the Hel Peninsula on the Baltic Sea coast. Once he reached his northern destination, the pilot returned along the same route until his energy resources were completely exhausted.
The driving effort lasted a total of 45 hours, and the weather conditions were typical of early autumn, with an average ambient temperature of 15 degrees Celsius.
The results obtained at the end of the test highlight extraordinary efficiency:
- Average consumption recorded: 7.09 kWh/100 km – representing only half of the consumption value in the official technical data sheet.
- Exceeding the official range: The distance traveled was 72% greater than the homologated value in the WLTP cycle (which is 777 km).
94.9 kWh battery and the best aerodynamic coefficient in Audi history
The record-breaking performance of the A6 Sportback e-tron is due in equal measure to the advanced technical architecture and body optimizations. The model uses a lithium-ion battery pack with a net capacity of 94.9 kWh, coupled with a kinetic energy recovery system capable of feeding up to 220 kW back into the battery during braking and deceleration phases.
Aerodynamic efficiency played a crucial role. The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron is currently the most aerodynamic series model ever produced by the Ingolstadt manufacturer, with a drag coefficient of just 0.21 Cd.
This figure matches the world record for production vehicles. The absolute distance record for an electric vehicle (regardless of production status) remains that set in 2023 by the German experimental prototype muc022, which traveled 2.573.79 km on a single charge.
Equipment, options and prices for the Romanian market
The new Audi A6 e-tron is available in the national dealer network in Romania in both body styles (Sportback and Avant), offering both rear-wheel drive versions and quattro or high-performance all-wheel drive versions (S6 e-tron).
Available trim levels
- Basic / A6 e-tron: Entry-level equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, Audi Virtual Cockpit digital instrumentation, MMI central display with OLED technology and dual-zone automatic climate control.
- S Line: Adds exterior design elements with a sporty profile, 20-inch wheels, lowered sports suspension, sports front seats and a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel.
- Edition 1 (Launcher Package): Includes black exterior elements (Optikpaket Schwarz), advanced Matrix LED headlights, synthetic leather/microfiber upholstery and 21-inch alloy wheels.
Engine versions and price levels in Romania
- Audi A6 Sportback e-tron (83 kWh battery / 286 HP, rear-wheel drive): The entry-level variant starts on the domestic market at approximately EUR 68.500 (including VAT).
- Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Performance (94.9 kWh battery / 380 hp, rear-wheel drive): The version that set the world record offers an official WLTP range of up to 777 km and has a starting price of around EUR 76.800 (incl. VAT).
- Audi A6 Sportback e-tron quattro (94.9 kWh battery / 462 hp, all-wheel drive): The variant with two electric motors starts at around EUR 83.500 (incl. VAT).
- Audi S6 Sportback e-tron (94.9 kWh battery / 550 HP with Launch Control): The top-of-the-line sports variant, capable of a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.9 seconds, has a starting price of approximately EUR 101.000 (including VAT).
For the A6 Avant e-tron station wagon, prices are higher by approximately EUR 1.600 – 1.800 for each engine version.
