The legend returns in carbon clothes: AC Cars launches the new 800 HP Cobra GT Coupe and attacks the global market
British manufacturer AC Cars doesn't mess around with half measures. The brand has just officially unveiled the new Cobra GT Coupe, a spectacular reinterpretation of the legendary performance model. With this launch, the manufacturer not only brings an iconic design back to the forefront, but also announces its big ambitions: transforming into a global volume brand, with a production target of over 1,000 units per year.
Homage to history, built with top technology
At first glance, the car retains the voluptuous shapes that made history more than six decades ago. But beneath the retro paintwork lies cutting-edge modern engineering.
Unlike the original 1960s model, the new Cobra GT Coupe's body is made entirely of carbon fiber and is mounted on a rigid aluminum chassis. The new model is adapted to modern requirements for stability and space, being considerably wider than its ancestor, with an overall width of 1.98 meters.
Although it shares DNA with the Cobra Roadster version launched in 2024, most of the body panels have been redesigned specifically for this coupe. The aesthetic line is directly inspired by the famous AC Cobra A98, the race car that competed in the 1964 edition of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Interior: Where Nostalgia Meets the Digital Age
In the cabin, AC Cars has achieved an elegant mix between automotive purism and contemporary comfort:
- Premium materials: The steering wheel is partially covered in Alcantara, and the sports seats are finished in high-quality beige leather.
- Retro-modern design: The analog instrument cluster is strategically positioned in the middle of the dashboard, preserving the classic spirit.
- Discreet technology: Below the analog clocks is a central screen dedicated to the navigation and multimedia system, accompanied by physical buttons for excellent ergonomics.
Raw power under the hood: Up to 799 horsepower
The piece de resistance is undoubtedly under the long hood. The AC Cobra GT Coupe is powered by a 5.0-liter Ford V8 engine, available in three power configurations:
- Naturally aspirated version: Develops 450 horsepower.
- Supercharged version: Up the ante to 720 horsepower.
- The exclusive Clubsport Edition: It represents the top of the range and squeezes no less than 799 horsepower from the American stud.
Pure dynamics: Regardless of the engine chosen, the resources are sent exclusively to the rear wheels.
The manufacturer offers two transmission options: a 6-speed manual gearbox (for purists) or a 10-speed automatic. To efficiently put the power to the road, the base version is equipped with a limited-slip differential, while the higher-end (supercharged) variants receive high-performance Torsen differentials.
Price and availability
Exclusive performance and (recharged) nostalgia come at a price. The new AC Cobra GT Coupe has a starting price of £399,000. Official production of the model will begin next year, when the first examples will reach collectors around the world.
