2027 Lexus NX Debuts with 6th Generation Hybrid Technology and DC Fast Charging

Lexus NX 2027 Facelift - Japanese Premium SUV Outdoes Itself With Revised Design, More Power, and Extended Electric Range

Lexus has officially launched the new NX 2027 facelift, bringing a substantial update to the model that marked the beginning of a new era of design and technology for the Japanese brand. Considered a pillar of the manufacturer's global sales and a top-tier competitor in the premium mid-size SUV (D-SUV) segment, the new NX goes beyond a simple mid-life cosmetic update. True to Lexus' philosophy of continuous improvement ("Always On"), the new model brings added exterior dynamism, a refined driver-oriented interior, improved hybrid powertrains and an expanded suite of safety technologies.

Exterior Design: Sporty Line and Redefined Aerodynamic Elements

The new Lexus NX retains the athletic proportions of its predecessor, but adopts the brand's latest styling language, designed under the Vital x Tech philosophy. The front end is marked by a new frameless spindle grille, which seamlessly blends with the lines of the hood and bumper, while optimizing aerodynamic efficiency.

All-weather headlamps are now standard on all versions and integrate Adaptive High Beam (AHS), cornering lights and dedicated washers. The headlamp design is complemented by a slim strip for daytime running lights (DRL) and dual-background indicators.

At the rear, the LED light strip has been redesigned, incorporating a three-dimensional “L” motif that frames the new illuminated Lexus logo in the center. The side profiles benefit from new sills and 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels with a smoked finish. Lexus has completely abandoned the bright chrome elements in favor of dark finishes on the mirrors and trim, emphasizing the modern allure. The color palette includes nine options, including new shades Sonic Platinum, Sonic Tellus (a deep khaki green) and Titanium Carbide Grey (exclusive to F SPORT equipment).

Interior Design: Omotenashi Refinement and Sustainable Materials

The interior of the new NX adopts the latest generation architecture inspired by the ES sedan and the TZ electric SUV. The dashboard has a strongly horizontal orientation that enhances the feeling of space and improves outward visibility. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14-inch multimedia screen are positioned on the same visual axis as the head-up display, allowing the driver to consult essential information with minimal eye movement.

An important stylistic innovation is represented by the Responsive Hidden Switches technology: the switches integrated into the dashboard remain invisible until the driver's hand approaches, when they discreetly illuminate and provide physical feedback to the touch.

The interior can be customised with new upholstery colours, such as Clay Red, alongside Solis White, Hazel and Black. Business and Executive trims feature an innovative Forged Bamboo decorative element, made from 55% bio-based materials (resin and natural fibres), offering a unique texture for each model.

Equipment Levels: Diversified Options from Business to F SPORT

The new Lexus NX range is structured into four main trim levels:

  1. Business: Offers standard all-weather headlights, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, electrically adjustable and heated steering wheel, electrically operated tailgate, digital cockpit (12.3 inches + 14 inches) and the full Lexus Safety System+ package.
  2. Executive: Adds driver's seat memory, electric lumbar support, front seat ventilation, hands-free tailgate opening sensors, tinted rear windows, 360-degree camera system (Panoramic View Monitor), wireless smartphone charger, and multi-color ambient lighting.
  3. Luxury: Completes the offer with 20-inch wheels, fine leather upholstery, heated rear seats, Head-Up Display, automatic/remote parking system and the Smart Comfort package.
  4. F SPORT: The dynamic-focused version features Piano Black grilles and exterior elements, exclusive 20-inch double-spoke wheels, red brake calipers, aerodynamic corners for the rear bumper and micro-geometric textured interior trim.

Optionally, higher versions can be configured with a panoramic roof, a Mark Levinson premium audio system with 17 speakers and a digital rearview mirror.

Boosted Hybrid Drives: Increased Efficiency and Fast DC Charging

Under the hood, the 2027 Lexus NX moves to the sixth generation of Japanese hybrid technology, bringing major improvements to both electrified versions:

Specification / Model Lexus NX 350h (HEV) Lexus NX 450h+ (PHEV)

The NX 450h+ version also benefits from a 1,500W AC outlet inside, transforming the car into a mobile power source.

Onboard Technologies: From Responsive Hidden Switches to Sensory Concierge

The new Lexus NX puts the sensory comfort of passengers at the forefront with the introduction of the Sensory Concierge system. Available on higher trim levels, this system synchronizes ambient lighting (with 50 shades and dynamic patterns on the central display), music, climate control, seat temperature and the diffusion of dedicated fragrances developed in collaboration with the perfume house Givaudan. The driver can choose between preset modes Inspire, Radiance and Revitalise.

On the connectivity side, the multimedia system offers continuous Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, cloud-based navigation and full smartphone integration.

Safety: Latest Generation Lexus Safety System+

The Lexus Safety System+ active assistance package update brings improved performance sensors and radars. The horizontal detection angle of the sensors has increased by 115% and the scanning distance has been extended by 170%.

The new Driving Assist Display in the dashboard can display the real-time position of up to six surrounding vehicles (your own vehicle, two cars in front and two in adjacent lanes). The package also integrates a Driver Monitor Camera, connected to the Emergency Stop System (EDSS), which detects signs of fatigue or inattention and can safely stop the car if the driver stops reacting.

Driving Experience: Optimized Dynamics and Superior Soundproofing

Lexus engineers revised the car's dynamic architecture on the tracks at Shimoyama and the Nürburgring:

  • Driving position: The driver's seat is positioned lower to lower the center of gravity. The steering wheel has a 10 mm smaller diameter and extended telescopic adjustment travel, and the accelerator pedal offers a more linear travel.
  • Steering and Suspension: The variable-ratio steering box and electric power steering have been recalibrated for more precise response. The shock absorbers use ultra-low-velocity valves that effectively absorb small road imperfections while maintaining body stability at high speeds.
  • Structural rigidity: Floor rigidity has increased by 25%, and the front suspension mounting points on the pillars have increased rigidity by 30%, thanks to the extensive use of laser welds and structural adhesives.
  • Soundproofing: Road and engine noise has been reduced by approximately 20% by modifying the engine block, adding sound-absorbing materials to the rear bumper, tailgate and B-pillars, and optimizing the hybrid control unit (PCU) to eliminate vibrations when switching from EV to HEV mode.

Availability and Estimated Prices for the Romanian Market

The new Lexus NX 2027 facelift will be available for order in the official Lexus dealer network in Romania starting in the fall of 2026, with the first deliveries to customers and the arrival of the first units in showrooms in the country taking place in the spring of 2027.
