Fifth-generation Hyundai Tucson 2027 debuts in Europe. “Art of Steel” design, hybrids up to 292 hp and AI technology
Hyundai has officially unveiled the fifth generation of its compact SUV Tucson for the European market. One of the most popular models in the South Korean manufacturer's portfolio is undergoing a complete transformation, receiving a new aesthetic philosophy, a more spacious cabin equipped with cutting-edge technologies and a propulsion range structured around three engine variants, two of which are electrified.
"Art of Steel": A new aesthetic philosophy defined by sharp edges and Micro Pixel technology
The fifth-generation Tucson ushers in the brand’s new visual language, dubbed Art of Steel. This styling concept is characterized by straight lines, pronounced edges and sculpted surfaces, giving the SUV a more robust and athletic profile on the road.
The front area integrates slim LED headlights with a new light signature called H-Edge. The main optical units are positioned lower, integrated directly into the bumper, below the vertically arranged daytime running lights. The same graphic theme is found at the rear LED taillights.
A distinctive technological element is the optional MPL (Micro Pixel Lighting) lighting system, which uses 25,600 individual LED-illuminated pixels to generate dynamic light signals and animations when locking or unlocking the car.
In terms of dimensions, the new Hyundai Tucson records increases on all axles:
- Length: 4,560 mm (+35 mm compared to the previous generation)
- Width: 1,900 mm (+35 mm)
- Height: 1,670 mm (+20 mm)
The exterior color palette includes the shades Moonlake Metallic, Moonlake Matte, Rich Walnut Metallic, Rich Walnut Matte and Ignite Red, with a more sporty trim version (N Line) to be introduced later.
Lounge-style cabin: Expanded space, up to 17-inch screen and Gleo AI voice assistant
Inside, the new generation adopts a minimalist layout designed in the form of a modern waiting room. The dashboard integrates a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen with a diagonal of 12.9 inches or, optionally, 17 inches. The driver also benefits from a new-generation Head-Up Display that projects driving data directly onto the windshield, while the physical controls for climate control and quick functions have been kept below the main screen for optimal ergonomics.
Moving the transmission selector to the steering column, behind the steering wheel, freed up the center console, creating space for two wireless smartphone charging zones and four USB-C ports.
The comfort and acoustics chapters bring top features:
- Ergonomic seats: The driver's seat can be equipped with a massage function (Ergo Motion Seat), and the front seats can be ordered in the Relaxation Comfort Seat specification, allowing the backrest to be tilted at the touch of a button.
- Pleos Connect multimedia system: Based on Android architecture, the system integrates the Gleo AI intelligent voice assistant for natural commands.
- Audio & ambient experience: Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with 12 acoustic speakers and Smart Mood Lamp interactive ambient lighting.
Three propulsion options: From 150 hp MHEV to 292 hp PHEV version and 81 km of electric range
The European range of the new Hyundai Tucson debuts with three petrol and hybrid engine configurations:
- 1.6 T-GDi Mild-Hybrid 48V (150 HP): The entry-level version uses a 1.6-liter turbo engine that delivers 150 HP and 250 Nm. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 9.9 seconds. The transmission can be provided by a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (7DCT).
- 1.6 T-GDi Hybrid (245 HP): The classic hybrid system (HEV) combines the 1.6-liter thermal unit with an electric motor for a total power of 245 HP and maximum torque of 380 Nm. This variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
- 1.6 T-GDi Plug-in Hybrid (292 HP): The top of the range combines the same petrol engine with a more powerful electric motor, delivering a total of 292 HP and 380 Nm. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 7.9 seconds. The 17.1 kWh battery provides an all-electric range of up to 81 kilometers.
Full Assistance Package: Hyundai SmartSense Technology and Digital Rearview Mirror
Active safety systems are grouped under the Hyundai SmartSense package, which offers adaptive cruise control linked to navigation data, advanced highway driving assistant (Highway Driving Assist) and intelligent speed limit recognition.
Parking maneuvers are simplified by the remote automatic parking system (Remote Smart Parking Assist), the parking route memory function, the digital rearview mirror and a 360-degree camera system with a view under the car floor, extremely useful in rough terrain for versions equipped with all-wheel drive.
