Mercedes-Benz officially confirms VLS: The first minivan in the brands history to bear the Maybach badge

The "Palaces on Wheels" Revolution: Mercedes-Benz confirms the VLS, the first minivan in history under the Maybach emblem
Stuttgart, March 25, 2026 – Mercedes-Benz has taken the decisive step in transforming the MPV segment by officially confirming the launch of the new VLS model. This “Grand Limousine” is not only a successor to the spirit of the V-Class, but also represents a historic first: it will be the brand’s first MPV to bear the legendary Maybach badge, promising to redefine absolute luxury in passenger transport.
From VLE to VLS: A hierarchy of electric luxury
The announcement comes shortly after the official debut of the Mercedes-Benz VLE, ??the electric successor to the current V-Class. While the VLE focuses on premium versatility, offering an impressive range of up to 700 kilometers (WLTP) and 800-volt charging technology, the new VLS (where the "S" refers directly to the S-Class's standards of excellence) will raise the bar towards ultra-luxury.
Both models are developed on the revolutionary VAN.EA (Van Electric Architecture). This modular platform, built specifically for electric vehicles, allows for unprecedented optimization of interior space, transforming the passenger compartment into a true private lounge.
Maybach VLS: A "Private Lounge" with 8K technology
While the standard VLS promises a huge amount of space and top-of-the-line trim, the Mercedes-Maybach VLS will be a direct assault on a segment previously dominated by rivals like the Lexus LM. Sources within the brand suggest that the interior will borrow elements from the Vision V concept, transforming the rear into a “digitally immersive” experience.
Expected features include:
- Individual "Executive" seats: With massage functions, air conditioning and reclining at an angle that allows for total relaxation.
- Retractable Panoramic Screen: A 31.3-inch (or even larger, according to recent patents) 8K resolution display integrated into the ceiling or partition wall.
- MB.OS: The new Mercedes-Benz operating system, powered by artificial intelligence, that will personalize every aspect of your journey, from ambient lighting to the fragrance diffused in the cabin.
Release calendar
Production of the Mercedes-Benz VLS series model is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026. However, customers who want the ultimate exclusivity will have to wait a few more months, as the Maybach version will make its official debut in 2027.
This strategic move confirms CEO Ola Källenius' desire to reposition Mercedes-Benz as a "Luxury First" brand, where the van segment ceases to be just a utilitarian category, becoming an extension of the exclusive lifestyle.
